Home     /     Blog     /     Choosing Single or Double Film for a Gothic Greenhouse
By ECO Green House

Film selection affects the covering assembly, light conditions, maintenance and climate equipment. A single-layer and an inflated double-layer proposal should be compared as complete systems for the intended production season.

Use this guide when reviewing a gothic greenhouse proposal or checking an existing installation.

Specify the Film Product

Request thickness, UV treatment, optical properties and any anti-drip or thermal features by product specification. Confirm the installation orientation and warranty conditions supplied by the manufacturer. Similar-looking rolls may have different intended uses. The quotation should identify the film area, fastening materials and installation accessories so the price does not omit parts needed to finish the roof and ends.

Review the Production Season

Discuss whether the greenhouse will operate seasonally or throughout colder months. Film choice belongs with the heating, ventilation and screen strategy. Double covering can change heat transfer, but energy performance depends on the full envelope and operation. Ask the designer to compare the alternatives using the same climate inputs and crop requirements instead of promising a fixed saving for every location.

Include Inflation Equipment Where Needed

An inflated double-film assembly requires an appropriate air-supply arrangement and supporting details. Ask what blower, air inlet, controls and maintenance instructions are included. Confirm how inflation is checked and what happens if the blower stops. Installation quality matters because loose or uneven covering can affect operation. Keep replacement blower references and the inspection procedure in the handover documents.

Plan Film Replacement and Access

Determine how staff or installers will remove old film and fit the next covering. Reserve access around the greenhouse and identify equipment that must be protected during this work. Keep the correct film dimensions and fastening specifications. A lower initial covering price may lead to extra disruption if replacement is poorly planned or essential profiles and consumables are difficult to obtain locally.

Inspect the Completed Covering

Before acceptance, check fastening, obvious damage, rubbing points and the fit around doors and vents. For an inflated assembly, inspect operation under the supplier's procedure. Record defects while the installer is still available. Compare the installed product labels with the order so future replacements match the selected film rather than an unverified substitute.

Buyer’s Review Checklist

Before approving the scope, confirm the following points in the drawings, quotation or handover records:

  • Named film product and orientation
  • Complete fastening scope
  • Heating and ventilation assumptions
  • Inflation equipment and interruption procedure
  • Safe recovering access

Frequently Asked Question

Will double film always be the right purchase?

No. The choice depends on operating season, light needs, local climate and the rest of the equipment package. Compare both systems with the same production assumptions, including the added equipment and maintenance required by an inflated assembly.

Prepare a Clear Project Enquiry

Send ECO Green House your location, crop, growing area and the details relevant to Gothic greenhouse single or double film. Include existing drawings or equipment references where available, and identify which items need supply, installation or technical review. A clear brief makes it easier to discuss the required scope and resolve exclusions.
